Signs this is the problem
- Boosts or Click to Direct ads on Instagram fail while Facebook ads run.
- The account was created with the business start date, not a person's birthday.
- Meta shows a notice about Teen Account settings or age.
Fix the birthday
- Open Accounts Center from Instagram settings.
- Go to Personal details, then Birthday.
- Enter the real date of birth of the adult who owns the account.
- Confirm your age with an ID or a video selfie when Meta asks.
- Wait for the result before relaunching ads.
Under 16 or 16 to 17
Meta's help page treats the two groups differently. Accounts registered as under 16 can have Instagram ad campaigns limited across Feed, Stories, Click to Direct and boosted posts, and Meta says supervision from a parent account has to be set up before the birthday can change. Accounts registered as 16 or 17 are limited on Click to Direct ads. If you are an adult and the birthday was simply entered wrong, the ID check is the route.
What not to do
- Do not open a second Instagram account to get around the limit.
- Do not use anyone else's ID. The date has to match the birthday you enter.
- Do not keep changing the birthday. Change it once, to the correct date.
