Set an account spending limit before a big sale

An account spending limit caps how much the whole ad account can spend until you change or reset it. When it is reached, every ad stops. Set one before a sale week, especially if an automated tool, an agency or a new team member can raise budgets, so a mistake or a hacked login cannot run up the card.

Why it helps

Steps

  1. Open Billing and payments, then Payment settings, for the ad account.
  2. Find Account spending limit and set an amount a little above the total you plan to spend in the period.
  3. Note the date you set it.
  4. Check the amount spent against the limit each morning of the sale.
  5. Raise or reset it yourself when needed, from the same screen.

What it does not do

Meta changes its help pages, menus and forms often. Follow the wording on your own screen and the current Help Center. Ads Account Recovery is an independent service and is not affiliated with Meta.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Do ads restart when I raise the limit?

Yes, once the new limit is saved and the account is in good standing.

Can an agency change my limit?

Anyone with the right permissions on the ad account can. Check who has access.

Is the spending limit the same as a billing threshold?

No. The threshold is when you are charged. The limit is the most the account can spend.
